For over 25 years, Steven has focused in bankruptcy law and litigation, representing thousands of debtors in bankruptcy under Chapters 7, 11 and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code. Additionally, for over 24 years Steven has served as a Chapter 7 and 11 Trustee on the panel appointed by the Office of the U.S. Trustee. As a Trustee, Steven has been responsible for over 16,000 cases, and is the only Trustee with offices in Morris County. Steven's practice includes all aspects of consumer and commercial bankruptcy, restructuring, creditors’ rights, bankruptcy litigation, and commercial litigation, including the representation of debtors, secured creditors, unsecured creditors, trustees, and other parties in interest. During his career, Steven has successfully handled all types of cases, from the ordinary to the extraordinary, including those involving complex and hard fought litigation.

OPERATING CASES AS CHAPTER 7 OR CHAPTER 11 TRUSTEE 

 

  • 50,000 square foot mall consisting of 13 units — operated for 30 months; collected over $1.3M in rents; sold 10 of 13 units; set aside a number of liens; prosecuted tax appeals on the 13 units; and successfully tried a fraudulent transfer action against affiliated entity.
  • Commercial Insurance Agency — operated for 15 months with licensed insurance broker; attempted to sell book of business; filed 19 avoidance actions following conversion, with one case resulting in a favorable opinion on property of the estate; recovered $750K from insurance carriers; $300K from insiders for conversion, and almost $500K in avoidance actions.
  • 23 French Country furniture stores located in 13 states conducted — Going Out of Business sales in 23 stores across 13 states which generated $9.5M; sold Debtor's intellectual property; sold 2 of Debtor's leases; and liquidated various assets and avoidance actions for an additional $1.8M.
  • Large retail toy store — operated for 60 days and sold as a going concern.
  • Several restaurants including an Irish Pub
